CPC Corporation Taiwan plans to construct a new naphtha cracker to replace its No. 4 cracker in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. 

The current No.4 cracker is 37 years old and has a limited annual ethylene production capacity of 380,000 metric tons.

Amidst increasing demand for ethylene, the company plans to invest $2.9 billion to increase the ethylene production capacity to 1 million metric tons.

The progress of the project is scheduled as-

  • Application for EIA (environmental impact assessment) in 2022
  • Initiate construction activity in 2025
  • Completion of construction and commencement of operations in 2028

 Prior to dismantling the existing site, the company plans to make the new unit completely operational and accordingly, has decided to use the land procured from China American Petrochemical Co. Ltd in 2017.
