Marston's has formed a joint venture to combine its brewing division with that of Carlsberg UK to create the Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company in October 2020. Marston's will be left with 40% of the brewing company and retain 100% control of its pub division.
In February 2020, Marston's signed a five-year extension to its distribution deal with Japanese beer maker Kirin.
In May 2020, Marston merged its brewing business with Carlsberg UK into a joint venture valued at £780m. Marston's took a 40% stake in the joint venture and received up to £273m in cash. The deal will involve Marston's six breweries and distribution depots, but not its 1,400 pubs.
In December 2020, Marston's took over the running of 156 pubs in Wales from Welsh brewer Brains.
In January 2021, the company has planned to develop many new projects to enhance the outside spaces of its pubs. From marquees and awnings to jumbrellas and teepees, it has been busy investing in creating ‘inside-outside’ areas too to offer its guests options in the future, while abiding by any relevant Covid-19 restrictions.
With an experience of over 180 years and 14,000 employees working for the company, Marston’s plc generated revenue of 515 million GBP in the year 2020, with a decline from 784 million GBP in the year 2019.
The company operates over 1,700 pubs and bars across England and Wales, around 300 tenanted and 500 leased, and a hotel chain.
The company was founded in 1834 and is headquartered in Wolverhampton, the United Kingdom.
