Iberdrola plans to invest €150 billion in the run-up to 2030 and thus remain at the forefront of the energy revolution faced by the world's major economies. It has already embarked on a historic €75 billion investment program — to 2025 — to consolidate the business model based on more renewable energy, more networks, more storage, and more smart solutions for its customers.
Iberdrola has one of the biggest renewable pipelines in the business — over 74 GW. By 2030, it will add 60 GW more of installed renewable power, doubling the current capacity, which will reach 95 GW with the expansion to €150 bn.
The group has its business operations in numerous countries and supplies energy to over 100 million people, mainly in Spain, the United Kingdom (Scottish Power), the USA (AVANGRID), Brazil (Neoenergia), Mexico, Germany, Portugal, Italy or France.
PUERTOLLANO GREEN HYDROGEN PLANT - Iberdrola plans to construct the largest green hydrogen plant for industrial use in Europe in 2021. The Puertollano (Ciudad Real) plant will consist of a 100 MW photovoltaic solar plant, a lithium-ion battery system with a storage capacity of 20 MWh, and one of the largest electrolytic hydrogen production systems in the world (20 MW), all from 100 % renewable sources.
With an investment of 150 million euros, the initiative will create up to 700 jobs and prevent emissions of 39,000 tCO2/year. The green hydrogen produced there will be used Fertiberia's local ammonia plant.
Iberdrola and Fertiberia place Spain at the forefront of green hydrogen in Europe, with 800 MW and €1.8 billion investment projected by 2027.
In November 2020, Iberdrola joined with Norwegian company Nel to build and develop large-scale electrolyzers in Spain to make Spain a leader in green hydrogen technology and industry.
